What Is Waterwatch?

Waterwatch is a national community water quality monitoring program that has been operating since 1993. The program brings together school and community groups, landowners, Councils and Water Authorities to test the quality of their local stream or water source so that practical actions can be taken to maintain and improve water quality.

Why Monitor?

Good quality water is our most precious renewable resource. Our land and waterway management practices in recent times have impacted on the health of our waterways. Climatic conditions also affect river health as has been demonstrated during and since the recent drought.

Benefits of Waterwatch

The more we understand the issues around river health, the better we can care for our waterways. Waterwatch raises community awareness of important water quality issues.

What Happens to the Data?

Water quality monitoring results from right across the Goulburn Broken catchment can also be viewed on this site. Volunteer monitors from widely separated sites can share their results to quickly identify problem areas.
